It would be great for there to be a book written bout or by Mike, but this is punk rock dont expect Mike or Social D to get much recognition at all in the mainstream world. Perhaps it could be done but would probably take awhile to get things rollin
great idea worth a shot, let me know if i can be of any assistance if anybody tries to get something going

let's give the guy a break! Sure it would be nice if he wrote a book. It would be nice if he came to my birthday party too. lol. Plus, didn't he kinda go over allot the "hits" on the liner notes of Live at the Roxy? Let's wait til they get the greatest hits cd and the new record out before we start asking for a book. Allot of the songs are kinda easy to follow too..i think thats whats great about social d, you can listen to the lyrics and kind of put your own life/experiences to music. Im not saying a book would be bad...but there's allot left in Mike and social d to do musically. Maybe if he retires (god forbid) he could write a autobiography.

I think a book would be great, but I don't see Mike as a guy that really wants to share a lot. Did you listen to his commentary on Another State of Mind? He either didn't want to share much, or truly didn't remember much from the early days. As long as he continues to write and record music, I'm happy.

Yeah, I agree that a book would be a great idea after the "Greatest Hits" record and then maybe a few more years.... Like Ness has said before that Social Distortion has NOT peaked out yet musically speaking. By the way, look most rock bands that have biogragphies out already and Social Distortion is easily as big as an other of those artists. I mean Blink 182.... C' mon!

i think he already wrote an autobiography, it's called, "story of my life." maybe he can add a new verse to it; his experiences from 1995-2005, or something along those lines.
but we really already know most that there is to know about the guy and i think he'd rather just have a little privacy. interviews are abundant with him (even though they basically say the same thing).
what would the book look like? something like this i imagine:
1. early years. move to southern CA from back east. looked up to outlaws. kicked out of his house in HS. dropped out of HS.
2. started band
3. sex, drugs, rock-n-roll
4. detox
5. more rock-n-roll
6. cars
7. rock-n-roll
8. country, solo project
9. loses best friend
10. ballads/ more rock-n-roll
11. new appreciation for life. family man. more cars. more rock-n-roll. black kat kustoms.
12. future of social d is that "kids are supposed to carry the torch."
so we fill in the blanks with the wedding, the kids, and maybe a few friendships, and that's about it. i just cant see a book like that selling copies to people that aren't fans. (keep in mind, i'd still buy the book), but like SocialD Fan01 said, mainstream America wouldn't necessarily be interested.

wanted to see if we could drum up some support to this idea: last year I read a book by Jake Burns from Stiff Little Fingers called "song by Song" and its basically a bio written by Jake in the form of talking about the songs he has writtin in SLF since the late 70s. it was a book I could not put down. The only other muscian I thought this would be perfect for was Mike. It would be great to hear straight from Mike his history thru his songs and about growing up in the Punk world.
what do you guys think?
Mike, if your reading this: I want to design the book since Im a graphic designer!!

Unless Oprah becomes interested. Remember how she launched James Frye's book A Million Little Pieces, in which they both became humiliated at a later date. I read that book and then was sorry I did. It was interesting but had a bogus feeling all through it. Mike's story would definitely be real, and I've even thought about how he should write a book about his life. About the struggles of overcoming adversity, what he really had to go through, the people who helped him along the way, because I don't think you can rise above adversity standing alone. Look at how his music helps us rise up and be inspired to be everything we're suppose to be ( plus kick ass rock and roll just fills your soul) I think a book could also really inspire a whole different group of people who feel they are struggling. But I agree farther in the future, and of course call it "The Story of My Life"
But then again, some people write books and some people like Mike write music, and thank God they do!!!

Yeah I think a songwriters gift is to put their experiences into music... so in a sense he has written a book about his life, telling his emotions at different times, and trials he's over come. But I definetly think it's a stretch to expect him to right a full on book. If he did do it, it'd be because he wanted to, irregardless of popular demand, cause that's just how old mikey gets it done.
